Remida was founded in Reggio Emilia in 1996, within the culture of the city’s infant-toddler centers and preschools and is part of the educational system called Reggio Emilia Approach.
The heart of its research is matter, generative of thoughts and a vessel for knowledge, able to fascinate as well as pose questions about environmental, social, economic and educational issues.
Remida recovers from a network of 200 local companies about 20 tons per year of material destined for disposal, which is put back into circulation through projects and a distribution service to about 400 schools and associations.
Thanks to a special agreement, the Remida Center is assimilated to a recycling platform that transforms waste into an intellectual resource. Its strategy is the valorization of waste material, a material that requires care, respect and research of its expressive potential, in the idea that resources are not infinite and that being waste does not mean being poor material.
Remida attributes to materials a poetics that is an invitation to look for beauty where we are not usually used to finding it, suggesting that this sensibility may be valid as an approach to the world.
